Risk statement

Participation in recreational activities, intramural sports, fitness programs and special events is purely voluntary, and individuals participate at their own risk. Participants should be aware of the possibilities of bodily injury and should understand that they are responsible for any and all costs arising out of injury or property damage sustained through participation. Should someone become injured, please notify a program or facility supervisor for assistance.

Security and ID cards

The Student Recreation Center security system is designed to protect our student-funded facility and to ensure all users have proper authorization. Any person wishing to enter the activity spaces within the rec center must buy access rights according to the facility fee structure and obtain an Bronco Card that allows access into the control zone.* A Bronco Card, 六合之家 affiliate ID or guest pass are acceptable forms of identification for admittance and may be used only by the owner.

Bronco Cards or passes used by individuals other than the owner will be confiscated. You may not "authorize" anyone to use your Bronco Card to access the facility. The card holder must purchase a new card at the Bronco Card Center for $35. After purchasing the new card, the cardholder must meet with the Associate Director of Facilities and Programs to have their card reactivated. Also, the individual who uses the confiscated card will not be allowed back into the rec center until they meet with the Associate Director.

*Classrooms, University Recreation main office, the Department of Human Performance and Health Education offices and laboratories are located outside the control zone.

Equipment checkout

Only patrons with a valid Bronco Card may check out equipment. Guests may not check out equipment. Please examine equipment carefully prior to checking out to make sure equipment is not damaged or non-functioning. Any damaged items or items not returned will be billed to the user. Items are considered damaged when they are no longer usable or playable, e.g. crack in the frame, severe bending or warping of frame, popping of basketballs, volleyballs, soccer balls and other similarly shaped objects, etc. For more information on equipment checkout, please visit the equipment rental page.

Weight room

  • Non-六合之家 students under the age of 16 are not permitted in the weight room.
  • No food is allowed in the weight room. Only drinks in containers with tight-fitting lids are permitted.
  • Personal belongings must be kept in a locker. Items left unattended will be taken to lost and found.
  • Proper athletic clothing, shirts and non-marking rubber-soled shoes must be worn at all times. Sandals and other open-toe footwear, dress shoes, jeans or jean shorts are prohibited. Clothing with rivets or zippers and jeans can tear upholstery.
  • Equipment must be wiped down after each use.
  • Elliptical and other cardiovascular machines are in high demand. As a courtesy to other patrons, workout time should be limited to 30 minutes on all cardiovascular machines.
  • Collars must be used on all free-weight equipment.
  • Weights, plates, dumbbells and accessories must be re-racked and returned to their proper storage areas after use.
  • Do not drop or bang weights. This includes, but is not limited to, barbells, dumbbells, free-weight equipment and other weight training machines. If you hear a "bang," you are dropping weights. Every time you drop weights, you endanger yourself and others around you, damage the floor and disrupt classes that are going on. Patrons who carelessly drop weights and have been asked more than once to stop dropping weights will be asked to leave the weight room.
  • Olympic-style pulling or pressing movements, including cleans, jerks and snatches, are not allowed

Lockers

Patrons are encouraged to lock all personal items (books, clothes, jewelry, ID cards, etc.) inside a locker. Any items left unattended will be taken to lost and found. Lockers are available free of charge on a daily basis. Patrons must provide their own lock and remove their items prior to leaving the facility. A limited amount of coin lockers are also available on a daily basis for 25 cents and is paid each time the locker is opened. Any lock left on a locker overnight (except semester rental lockers) or in a daily coin locker will be removed and the contents of the locker will be available at the equipment issue desk for 30 days. There is a $5 retrieval fee for any items left in a locker overnight and removed by our staff. For more information on locker rental and usage, please visit the locker rental page.
